I received this book in June’s Fairyloot box and before unboxing the box I had never heard or seen any reviews to do with this book. I read the description and I thought it sounded like something I would enjoy reading, so I put it on my bookshelf thinking I would try and get it read before the end of the year. A couple of weeks back I was reading quite a few contemporary books and just fancied a change, something different. I then noticed this book sitting on my bookshelf and I thought its not too long, I will give it a go. I am so glad I did because I absolutely enjoyed reading this book. It had everything I wanted in a book and more. I will definitely be carrying on with the series when the next book is released, next year.

Arora or Roar is an amazing character for this series and I can’t wait to read about her as the series progresses. I liked how she was flawed from the very beginning and you do feel for her from the start. As the story continues she develops more and more, but I still think that her character has a lot more to give throughout this series, and thats why I am excited to see what happens to her next.

I found the plot to be very engaging and it kept me interested all the way to the very end. The magic system to me was very original and I liked the way the magic was used and the ways it could be used, as well as the storm hearts. The storm fights were exciting to read and at times, had me on the edge of my seat. But one of my favourite points about the book was the world. I thought the world was created and described beautifully and I cannot wait to read the rest of the series because for me the world is like another character and it got more and more developed as the book went on.

I know that the entire plot wasn’t very original and some bits did feel samey to other books I read, but honestly that didn’t bother me. I was so invested in the story and the characters, I didn’t mind. I think that because most of the world and the magic system is new and exciting, its easy to over look some of the repeated plot points and it doesn’t make this book any less enjoyable to read.

Having never read anything by Cora Carmack before I didn’t know whether I would like her writing or not, because I am fussy when it comes to fantasy. But I throughly enjoyed her writing and found it easy to read and I was able to visualise the world, the battles and the characters while reading. I might even try some of her romance novels in the future, because if they are written half as good as this book, I am sure I will enjoy reading them.

I have to say that if you are looking for a new and exciting fantasy read, set in an awesome world, with an exciting magic system and fascinating characters, then Roar is a must read. I would even say that this may be one of my favourite reads of this year, and I am desperately waiting to read the next book.
