Books

June TBR

Throughout both June and July I plan on reading the entire Shadowhunters series. I plan on reading The Mortal Instruments, The Infernal devices and The Dark Artefacts series over the next two months. I have decided to split it over the two months rather than binge reading it all in one month just so I don’t get too bored of the series. I did start The Mortal Instruments series last year, but only managed to read the first two books. I plan on re-reading these two books again because its been so long since reading them, I have forgotten much of what happened.

The books I plan on reading in June are-

City of Bones (The Mortal Instruments Book 1) by Cassandra Clare

When fifteen-year-old Clary Fray heads out to the Pandemonium Club in New York City, she hardly expects to witness a murder― much less a murder committed by three teenagers covered with strange tattoos and brandishing bizarre weapons. Then the body disappears into thin air. It’s hard to call the police when the murderers are invisible to everyone else and when there is nothing―not even a smear of blood―to show that a boy has died. Or was he a boy?

I did originally read City of Bones last year and I really enjoyed reading it. I even carried on reading the second book in the series, but after that I left the rest of the series unread. From what I can remember I connected with the characters and I found the story very interesting and I hope you get straight back into this series.

City of Ashes (The Mortal Instruments Book 2) by Cassandra Clare

Clary Fray just wishes that her life would go back to normal. But what’s normal when you’re a demon-slaying Shadowhunter, your mother is in a magically induced coma, and you can suddenly see Downworlders like werewolves, vampires, and faeries? If Clary left the world of the Shadowhunters behind, it would mean more time with her best friend, Simon, who’s becoming more than a friend. But the Shadowhunting world isn’t ready to let her go — especially her handsome, infuriating, newfound brother, Jace. And Clary’s only chance to help her mother is to track down rogue Shadowhunter Valentine, who is probably insane, certainly evil — and also her father.

I really hope that I will enjoy reading this as much as I did last year. I can not remember why I never continued with the series after this book, but I am sure its wasn’t because I didn’t enjoy it. The only reason I can think of not continuing with the next book is that I had other books to read.

City of Glass (The Mortal Instruments Book 3) by Cassandra Clare

To save her mother’s life, Clary must travel to the City of Glass, the ancestral home of the Shadowhunters – never mind that entering the city without permission is against the Law, and breaking the Law could mean death. To make things worse, she learns that Jace does not want her there, and Simon has been thrown in prison by the Shadowhunters, who are deeply suspicious of a vampire who can withstand sunlight.

I have heard so many amazing reviews about this series, so I am hoping that I will manage to carry on with it this time. I feel a little left out when talk turns to all things Shadowhunters because I have never read all the books in the series.

Clockwork Angel (The Infernal Devices Book 1) by Cassandra Clare

The year is 1878. Tessa Gray descends into London’s dark supernatural underworld in search of her missing brother. She soon discovers that her only allies are the demon-slaying Shadowhunters—including Will and Jem, the mysterious boys she is attracted to. Soon they find themselves up against the Pandemonium Club, a secret organization of vampires, demons, warlocks, and humans. Equipped with a magical army of unstoppable clockwork creatures, the Club is out to rule the British Empire, and only Tessa and her allies can stop them.

I have asked people what was the best order in which to read the series, so I have decided to mix in The Infernal Devices books with The Mortal Instruments. I have heard some people enjoy this series more than The Mortal Instruments, so I can not wait to start it and see what all the fuss is about.

  1. I’m planning on mixing the two series as well. I’m rereading City of Bones this month as its been several years. Maybe I’ll squeeze TMI #2 in this month but I’ve got other reads planned. Can’t wait to dive into this world!

      1. That’s my hope as well. Last time I just read City of Bones, made the mistake of watching the movie, and then called it quits for the series. I just finished Wintersong and am hoping to make my way through Hound of The Baskervilles, Predator by Patricia Cornwell, and Daughter of the Pirate King!
