For the month of February I managed to read a total of 5 books and listen to 2 audiobooks. This month I read and listened to some amazing books that will definitely sick with me for years.

Books

Harry Potter and the Philosophers Stone by J.K.Rowling

I started to read this on Harry Potter Book Night (4th February). I did plan on finishing it on the same day but I got a little distracted and it took a couple of more days. I really enjoy coming back to the Harry Potter series and re-reading the books. I try to re-read them once a year and normally I read them all one after another but this year I am going to read one book every other month so I’m reading Harry Potter books throughout the year instead of just 1 month of the year. Philosophers Stone is a great book to read when you want a quick and fun read, I have read it over ten times now and I never get bored of it. The characters and plot are a little thin compared to the later books but reading this book reminds me of growing up and relieving the excitement of reading the series.

I rate this book 4/5 stars

A Darker Shade of Magic by V.E.Schwab

This is another re-read because I wanted a refresh before I read the new book A Gathering of Shadows. I think I enjoyed this book more the second time round, from the different London’s to Kell and Lila, this book is full of adventure, tension and magic. V.E.Schwab’s writing is beautiful too, it just sucks you in and never leaves you. A definite read for any book lover of magic, fantasy and adventure.

A Gathering of Shadows by V.E.Schwab

The sequel to A Darker Shade of Magic does not disappoint. This book picks up four months after the end of ADSOM and its not stop adventure from beginning to end. All the characters from the first book are more defined and fleshed out. The plot moves forward and is never boring or dull. This book does leave you wanting more when you have finished, its just a shame that its another year away until the next book is released. I would highly recommend this book.

Glass Sword by Victoria Aveyard

I was a bit late coming into this series and only read Red Queen in January, so I did not have a long wait for this sequel compared to others. I was impressed by Red Queen and Glass Sword is even more impressive. Glass Sword raised the game by giving us more gripping storylines filled with tension to leave you hanging on the edge of your seat while reading. I went through all different emotions when reading this book and by the end I was exhausted. If you like books with elemental control and great characters then you should definitely check this series out.

Honesty by Seth King

I was an emotional wreck after finishing this book, I had to actually sit down and think about everything before I tried to speak about this book. I have read anything by Seth King before, but I have always heard great things about his writing. I went into this book with somewhat high expectations and I have to say that this book smashed all the expectations I had. Once I started this book I didn’t want to put it down and when I did have to leave it I was always thinking about the Cole and Nicky. This book is full of emotion and the writing is full of truth and honesty which will leave you in a mess by the end. I could not recommend this book enough and it has become one of my favourite reads.

Audiobooks

His Dark Empire by M.R.Forbes

I have read and listened to quite a bit fantasy recently and I had high hopes for this one after reading the blub, but I was a little disappointed. There was some original points to the story and the characters were likable, but I found it a little boring in places and it seemed like other fantasy books, nothing really stood out. Even though I only listened to this book a couple of weeks ago, I am struggling to recall anything about the plot, or anything I like about the book. Overall I would say this book is ‘meh’, nothing special or exciting.

I rate this book 3/5

All the Bright Places by Jennifer Niven

I did start to listen to this audiobook last year some time and got to about 30% and never carried on with it. I ran out of Audible credits and saw this on my books so decided to give this a re-listen. I do not know why I stopped listening to it last year because I toughly enjoyed this book. The characters and the writing are perfect and engaging, I would recommend this book if you liked Fault in our Stars.
